Cello Player

Biography

Flora Chen began studying the cello at an early age and has now been performing for eleven years. She has ten years of orchestral experience, having played in both Chinese-instrument and Western-instrument ensembles, several of which have received municipal-level top awards. Growing through two distinct musical traditions, she has developed an appreciation for the character of Chinese ensemble music alongside the collaborative thinking of a Western orchestra.

On stage and in competitions, Flora won first prize in the instrumental category of the Changzhou Secondary School Three Solos Competition after passing her Grade 10 examination, and has received multiple awards in the national Baiyulan competitions. Years of rehearsals and performances have strengthened both her solo technique and her ability to listen and collaborate in an ensemble. To Flora, the cello is more than an instrument: it connects Chinese and Western musical traditions and carries emotion. Through playing, she continues to discover the beauty of harmony and the joy of interpreting music with others.
